About
Carla Companion aka “The Beer Babe”

My name is Carla, and I am The Beer Babe. I write beer reviews and go on beer adventures, all of which can be found at my website, www.thebeerbabe.com. My personal philosophy is that the craft beer world is a broad one, and that there really is a beer out there for everyone, if you embark upon the adventure of trying to find it. I’ll try anything, because the worst thing that happens is that the beer isn’t for me – and I move on to another beer!
I’ve now been writing the brew reviews for two and a half years, and I’ve branched out considerably. I’ve started visiting brewpubs, beer bars and breweries and writning up my “Beer Adventures,” and I’ve been featured as a guest writer, interviewee and consultant for may different beer sites, projects and events. I hope to start homebrewing soon as well.
I’m excited to be a member of the Hop Press, because it really gives me an opportunity to explore topics beyond the scope of my own website, and to be among the other Hop Press writers is an honor.
I hope that you enjoy my writing, and if you have any questions or wish to contact me, please do at askthebeerbabe@gmail.com
Josh Christie
Josh Christie is a beer-loving bookseller living in the beautiful brewvana of Portland, ME. Although he’s only been able to (legally) drink for a couple of years, Josh has taken to the world of craft beer with vigor.
As for beer geek bona fides; Josh is a homebrewer, hoster of educational beer tastings, member of the Maine Beer Writers’ Guild, beer festival attendee, beer book reviewer, brew opinionaire, and seeker of beers not distributed in his neck of the woods.
In addition to this Hop Press blog, Josh runs Brews And Books, a blog devoted to promoting great books and great beer. More of Josh’s writing can be found on the sites Murmur and Books on the Nightstand.
Josh is also a huge social media geek, and you can find him on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, LinkedIn, iFanboy and (of course) RateBeer.
Steve Koenemann

Hey! Welcome to my RateBeer HopPress beer blog. I have been a RateBeerian since early 2004 and I honestly never met a beer that I didn’t like… I just liked some of them much more than others! I consider myself a true ” hop head” and while hoppy beers (IPA, IIPA, etc.) really appeal to me, I don’t discriminate much and I enjoy most types of beer; from a sour lambic to a malty marzen. While this is my first time to write for some else’s beer blog, I have maintained my own beer blog (www.vthophead.com) for a while.
In addition to my pursuit of many things beer, I have been fortunate to do many fun and meaningful things in my life… Degrees in Biology and Secondary Education (Univ. of VT), as a teacher in the Peace Corps (Sierra Leone, W. Africa), construction estimator/project manager, classroom teacher (7th & 8th grade Science/Computers), a technology business founder/owner (12 years), Vermont Foodbank (Director of Operations) and my current stint as the VP of Information Systems and CIO at VSECU, a large credit union in Vermont. Including beer, my hobbies are travel with my wife Candy, amateur photography, fishing (when I have time) and reading SciFi.
I hope that you enjoy what you read here and come back often to share in my beer adventures!
Joe McPhee
First, an introduction. My name is Joe McPhee and I have been a craft beer enthusiast for over ten years. My first experience with non-fizzy yellow beer was an almost accidental taste of Guinness while at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. This quickly led to a compulsion to try everything that the (then somewhat limiting) Nova Scotia Liquor Commission had on offer. A later chance encounter with RateBeer.com while looking for more information about a particular beer from a Unibroue sample pack, and my immersion in the craft beer world was sealed. I’ve spent seven years living in Vancouver, Canada exploring the beer scene in the Pacific Northwest, and for the last three years, I’ve been exploring New York City and the beer scene here. This is the place where I will be writing about my beer-related travels, both locally around New York, and somewhat further afield as the opportunity arises.
